It must have been about 1856 or 1857 when "Charlie" first slept under the stars right here in this exact spot. He was so taken by the beauty he encountered here that he decided to put an end to his days as a drifter and settle down. By the time the first snow fell in that winter of '57, Charlie had the roof on his log cabin... You can still see the major part of it on the left side of the walk as you pass through the court yard.
